FIRST CLIMB TO MANASLU

 

Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu were the first to climb Mount Manaslu on 9 May 1956. Before them in 1950, H.W. Tilman was the first European who made his attempt after his unsuccessful trek to Annapurna IV.

 

In 1952, a Japanese reconnaissance party reached around 5275 meters after monsoon season on the east side of the mountains. Also, in 1953, the Japanese team of 15 climbers led by Y.Mita via the northeast face K. Kato, J. Yamada, and S Ishizaka made a summit around 7750 meters before turning back.

 

Moreover, many Japanese teams have climbed the summit of Manaslu but got failed. Mount Manaslu is called Japanese Mountain and also known as Killer Mountain because of its frequent ice-fall, and high altitude trekker gets sick or killed.

HOW TO GET PERMIT

 

With the latest Manaslu Trekking Information, the Rules & regulation of Nepal’s Government, Manaslu Region has been declared as a restricted area. As a result, Independent trekkers are not allowed in the Manaslu Region and Trekkers must process all the documents to obtain a special permit from the Registered Trekking Agency.

 

Above all, you cannot issue an individual trekking permit for Manaslu. The government rules also state there must be a minimum of two trekkers in a group, where a local trekking guide is compulsory. But, don’t worry if you are a single trekker, you can join groups from Nepal Lion Tours & Treks. However, do not forget to let us know your preferences before joining a trekking group.

 

This is to say, three different permits are required for the Manaslu trek are:-

(1) Special Restricted Area Permit for Manaslu (Manaslu RAP)

(2)  Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP Permit)

(3)  Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP Permit)

 

For instance, if you are trekking to Tsum Valley then an additional Permit is required. Though, there is no need to obtain a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card for Manaslu Trekking.

 

ABOUT TRANSPORTATION

 

Firstly, Soti Khola is the starting point for trekking in the Manaslu region. Secondly, you will drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola by local bus which takes about 8 hrs (160 km drive). While completing the trek you can get a local jeep from Dharapani to Besisahar which is 3 hrs of drive. Next, from Besisahar you have a choice to go from Kathmandu, Pokhara or Sauraha. ACCOMMODATION (FOOD & TEAHOUSE)

 

Manaslu Circuit treks are one of the best tea house treks in Nepal. Most of the trekkers prefer to stay in the teahouse as it is convenient and easy. However, if you prefer to go for a camping trek, Nepal Lion can manage it. In the same vein, the teahouse provides you a single room with an attached bathroom but in the higher region, you will get a twin-sharing room and common toilet.

 

Tea house provides you pillows, mattresses, and warm blankets (Nepal lion trek provides you Sleeping bag for free during the trek). There is a heating system in the dining room of every tea house. The teahouse has a menu with a wide variety of food which serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

NEPAL VISA ON ARRIVAL

 

Yes, you can get on an arrival tourist visa at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Most people can obtain visas on entry to Nepal. But, travelers from some country’s need to organize their visas before traveling. $30 for 15 days of visa from the date of issue, $50 for 30 days, and 125US$ for 90 days tourist visa. INSURANCE FOR TREKKING

 

As Nepal doesn’t have mountain rescue insurance. We suggest you buy an insurance policy in your country. Personal Travel insurance which has to cover emergency high-altitude rescue and evacuation is compulsory.
