Annapurna Sanctuary Trek-10 Days

Trip Introduction

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Annapurna Sanctuary Trek brings you into the heart of Annapurna Himalaya, is intended to fulfil the dream of many people to experience the significant mountain holiday at the base of the world´s famous Annapurna Himal 8091m, the region’s most beautiful peak Machhapuchhre (6997m), Annapurna South, Gangapurna and Hiuchuli etc. in the region. The place is high glacial basin lying 40 km directly north of Pokhara.

This oval-shaped plateau has an elevation of over 4130 meters and is enclosed by a ring of mountains, the Annapurna range, most of which are above 7000 meters. With the only access a narrow pass between the peaks of Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre, from where Modi Khola River run-off glaciers drain into, the Sanctuary was not penetrated by outsiders until 1956. Because of high mountains on all sides, the Annapurna Sanctuary receives only 7 hours of sunlight a day at the height of summer.

The unique combination of heights and depths in the Annapurna Sanctuary gives rise to an astonishing diversity of ecosystems. The south-facing slope is “covered in dense tropical jungles of rhododendron and bamboo”, while the north-facing slopes, in the rain shadow, have “drier colder weather similar to that of the near-by Tibetan Plateau.”

Old Beliefs of Annapurna Sanctuary

The entire sanctuary was considered holy to the Gurung people, one of the many resident people to inhabit the area. They believed it was the storage area of gold and a variety of resources left there by the Nagas- the serpent-gods known in India. The sanctuary holds a belief that really was home of several deities, from Hinduism and Buddhism as well the older animistic gods.

Further, the peak of Machhapuchhre at the doorway was the mythical home of the god Shiva. Likewise, the daily plumes of snow acted as the smoke of his divine incense. Until recently, the local Gurung people forbade anyone from bringing eggs or meat into the Annapurna Sanctuary. Also, there is a prohibition rule for women and untouchables.

In recent years, the number of trekkers to the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek has increased substantially. Because the Sanctuary forms the base of one of the major routes to the peaks of the Annapurna range. The Annapurna Sanctuary is now part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. So, it places restrictions on the number of outside travellers, a gathering of firewood, and domestic animal grazing. This program is only for guidelines so, our itinerary is flexible and customizable as per your interest and time you have. For instance, people having time restrictions can still enjoy the Everest Base Camp Trek-9 Days.

Thus, this makes it one of the foremost picturesque treks within the Himalayas

Understand

The Annapurna Sanctuary Trek is a trek in the Annapurna region. Moreover, it commonly starts or finishes in either Phedi or Nayapul to reach the Annapurna Base Camp. To reach Phedi,  you need to travel a distance of 165 Kilometers ( via Baglung Highway ) from the capital city, Kathmandu. A total of 9 to 10 days is necessary for the whole trek to finish.

Stay healthy

There are official safe drinking water stations located at Landruk, Ghandruk, Jhinu, and Chomrong. Above all, there is no permission to sale plastic water bottles in Chomrong as well as the paths ahead. So, the advice for trekkers is to supply their own containers to refill. Lodges offer boiled or reverse osmosis water for around Rs. 130 per litre and untreated water for free.

Stay safe

Above Deurali, snow may be present as early as mid-November. Foot traffic quickly compacts the snow into the ice making the trail treacherous, especially travelling downhill. Trekking poles and micro crampons can make the going considerably easier. Whereas, some trekkers wear socks on the exterior of their boots or wrap them in rope for extra traction.

Most importantly, avalanche always poses a threat on the trail in Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. So, it crosses several slide paths.  As a result, trekkers should practice appropriate Snow safety as conditions warrant.
